“Taste the south”: GEZE company restaurant honoured for its sustainable, regional food concept

The Deutsche Hotel- und Gaststättenverband e.V. (Dehoga) certified the kitchen of the GEZE company restaurant at the headquarters in Leonberg with its “Schmeck den Süden” (taste the south”) seal of approval. Peter Hauck, Minister of Nutrition, Rural Areas, and Consumer Protection in Baden-Württemberg, handed over the seal on 9 August to honour the sustainable and regional focus of the company's food service.

As a family business, GEZE believes it is important for employees to feel comfortable in the company restaurant, to have access to a wide variety of high-quality and healthy food options, and for foods to be produced organically and sustainably. That is why GEZE implemented an all new food concept in early 2022 in collaboration with its partner Aramark. The concept focuses consistently on ensuring employees receive healthy food, that products come from the region, and that they are produced sustainably. Animal welfare is another important factor. In addition, the partners are working to reduce waste: under the motto of “don’t trash, redeem”, all disposable plastic products used for to-go drinks and foods have been replaced by the RECUP and REBOWL reusable systems.

With the GEZE food concept, we are ascribing special significance to sustainable consumption and healthy nutrition for our employees. The “Taste the south” certificate now proves that we mean business!

The “Taste the south” certificate

The seal of quality, developed by Dehoga Baden-Württemberg and the Ministry for Nutrition, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection, links the certificate to ambitious criteria: both fresh meat and all other beef, pork and lamb products, as well as the eggs used, must have the Baden-Württemberg quality label and the EU labels for protected designation of origin and protected geographical indication. In addition, in order to receive a “golden lion”, at least one completely regional dish must be on the menu one special day per week. Now, the successfully completed audit by a review commission and the honour for our partner Aramark confirm that the GEZE company restaurant fulfils all of these requirements. “I am very happy about the award, as good, healthy, and sustainable food is so important to me. Although the criteria and preparations are challenging: all that work pays off! Especially when you see the satisfied faces of our guests!” says Frank Spieth, Operations Manager at the GEZE cafeteria in Leonberg.
